Steel pipes for liquid natural gas (LNG)

When liquids with extremely low temperatures need to be explored, transported or stored the requirements for the steel pipes are enormous. With the view on the growing LNG market we decided early for the production of special pipes which comply with the high requirements. This lead to the development of EBK CRYO steel pipes, which generate worldwide enthusiasm in the liquid gas sector. The speciality of EBK CRYO pipes is the low thermal expansion coefficient in the temperature range between -196°C to room temperature.

The requirements for steel pipes to be used in LNG are especially high, because they have to withstand extreme environments. As LNG is transported at temperatures of -162 °C the steel pipes have to be made from materials which maintain ductility and strength even at very low temperatures. In addition the very low thermal expansion coefficient of EBK’s CRYO pipes between -196°C and room temperature is essential. This allows a pipeline design without expansion loops and savings of material and during construction.

For this we use special materials or coatings. The pipes also have to withstand alternating pressure situations which occur during liquefaction, transport and gasification of LNG. In order to avoid leakages and ensure pipeline safety the welds have to satisfy highest quality standards. By precise production and use of materials of highest quality we ensure safe and efficient LNG transport, minimize the risk of damage and accidents and therefore extend the lifetime of your plants.
